The Castle Brasserie is modern dining in an historic setting: the 500-year-old building with its simple, modern furnishing is the epitome of relaxed dining. Log fires and wood beams have been faithfully maintained, and the pleasing artwork is a mix of ancient and modern themes.
There are three individual dining rooms and a separate bar area. The Oak Room overlooks the picturesque parish church of St. Nicholas; the snug provides intimate dining or conferencing for up to 13 people; and the gallery provides dining, conferencing, or private function facilities for up to 35 guests.
Head chef Mark Speirs delivers inventive and quality cuisine with efficiency, flair, and unyielding consistency. Expect fresh, local ingredients, and starters like chicken liver and foie gras parfait, avocado and prawn tian, crispy ham hock, and homecured gravlax.
Main courses include stuffed guinea fowl, roast rump of lamb and sea bass. Finish with cold double chocolate fondant or fresh cream strawberry meringue. And don't forget - a thorough wine list complements your savoury selections, and dietary requirements can be catered for.
A set menu is offered at lunchtime: two courses for £12.95, three for £15.95.
