The Castle Brasserie is modern dining in an historic setting: the 500-year-old building with its simple, modern furnishing is the epitome of relaxed dining. Log fires and wood beams have been faithfully maintained, and the pleasing artwork is a mix of ancient and modern themes.
There are three individual dining rooms and a separate bar area. The Oak Room overlooks the picturesque parish church of St. Nicholas; the snug provides intimate dining or conferencing for up to 13 people; and the gallery provides dining, conferencing, or private function facilities for up to 35 guests.
Head chef Mark Speirs delivers inventive and quality cuisine with efficiency, flair, and unyielding consistency. Expect fresh, local ingredients, and starters like chicken liver and foie gras parfait, avocado and prawn tian, crispy ham hock, and homecured gravlax.
Main courses include stuffed guinea fowl, roast rump of lamb and sea bass. Finish with cold double chocolate fondant or fresh cream strawberry meringue. And don’t forget – a thorough wine list complements your savoury selections, and dietary requirements can be catered for.
A set menu is offered at lunchtime: two courses for £12.95, three for £15.95.

For a striking and complementary merging of the modern and historic, try a trip to The Castle, where beautifully presented modern fine dining food is served in a 500-year-old setting.
Chef Jerome Leopold combines an understanding of local and seasonal ingredients with a heap of Gallic charm to provide truly memorable meals with the emphasis on simplicity and value. Daily specials showcasing locally sourced ingredients are a cornerstone of the menu.
The influence of days past - focusing on hearty meats - makes the restaurant a tempting treat for carnivores, with the Cote de Boeuf, dauphinoise potatoes, Bourgignonne sauce (for two people) and roast suckling pig, served with sage and onion stuffing, baked apple, roast potatoes and jus popular and mouth watering options.
The Ploughman's lunch (served with a choice of local or French cheeses and homebaked bread) is a popular lighter choice, particularly with the lunch crowd who are also tempted by a lunch time special menu.
With three individual dining rooms and a separate bar area, whatever your reason for going to The Castle you'll be able to find a nook to settle into perfect for your needs.. The Oak Room overlooks St Nicholas' Church, the snug is a dining or conference space for up to 13 people and perfect for private parties or dinners, and the gallery provides a slightly bigger space for up to 35 guests.
