One of England's best-kept secrets, Monkey Island was originally used by monks to house their fisheries and has been a retreat for relaxing gentry for centuries and is a perfect place to get away from it all. Accessed only by footbridge or boat and surrounded by elegant gardens,
The Pavilion Restaurant is located near the centre point of the island, and has its own terrace with stunning river views.
Enjoy afternoon tea with homemade scones and finger sandwiches, or enjoy the table d'hote and a la carte menus which change monthly in line with what's seasonal and lovely.
We enjoyed the herb crusted rack of lamb on a herb mash with thyme jus and chicken breast stuffed with chorizo mousse, wrapped in Parma ham, while the cheese board accompanied with Monkey Island's own fruit chutney was a perfect end to the meal.
Reminiscent of a secluded paradise, and yet only ten minutes from Windsor, for a special night out and a meal in wonderful surroundings, Monkey Island is a must-visit.
